Hormel Foods Corporation (NYSE: HRL) today announced the recipients of its $10,000 2016 Hormel Heroes Scholarships.

The Hormel Heroes Scholarship Program was created by Hormel Foods to support female students with military backgrounds pursuing careers in culinary arts or a foodservice management related program, and is administered by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF).

“Hormel Foods has a long history or supporting the military. From producing SPAM® products to help feed allied troops during World War II, to producing products for the military today and providing employment opportunities for veterans, we are inspired by those who serve or have served our country,” said Jeff Baker, group vice president of foodservice, Hormel Foods. “We are proud to provide these scholarships to help these veterans foster their careers in the foodservice industry.”

The 2016 Hormel Heroes Scholarship recipients are Stephanie Brown and Carly Cooper.

Brown was in the U.S. Air Force for 10 years and is pursuing a degree in culinary arts from Johnson & Wales University. She would like to run her own food-related business after she graduates.

“Thank you so much for this most generous scholarship,” Brown said. “I promise to work hard and I will never forget your contribution to fulfilling my dreams of a culinary career.”

Cooper was in the U.S. Air Force for two years and is pursuing a degree in culinary arts from The Culinary Institute of America. She would like to run a small restaurant after she graduates.

“This scholarship means I’ll have a little less stress while I’m trying to accomplish my dreams,” Cooper said.

“The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation has a long-standing partnership with the military and is proud to recognize excellence in its past and present members,” said Rob Gifford, executive vice president, NRAEF. “We’re so thankful that Hormel Foods has made this scholarship possible and wish the recipients the best of luck in their future endeavors.”
