Mountain Prairie Farms Recognized for Environmental Leadership

Las Animas, Colo.
The statewide voluntary program recognizes organizations that go beyond compliance with environmental regulations by advancing sustainability in the state. Gold Leaders are companies with a fully operational, facility-specific environmental management system. They must meet beyond-compliance requirements and have no serious violations in three years, or five years for criminal offenses. Companies may renew their membership after three years.
Mountain Prairie has been a Gold Leader since 2017. Some of the efforts it has been recognized for are: saving energy through LED lights; waste minimization and diversion through cardboard and metal recycling programs; water conservation by reusing water from effluent compounds to flush the barns; corporate responsibility through participation in a cleanup of a 2-mile stretch of highway; and donations to a number of charities.
