The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is moving forward this year, but, as with many events in 2020, it is being reimagined.
For the first time in its nearly 100-year history, the annual spectacle is being modified…though if you typically watch the parade from the comfort of your own home, you might not even notice a difference—more on that below.
Covid-19 did not cancel one of our favorite holiday traditions, and for that we’re very thankful! The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is moving forward this year, but, as with many events in 2020, it is being reimagined.
For the first time in its nearly 100-year history, the annual spectacle is being modified…though if you typically watch the parade from the comfort of your own home, you might not even notice a difference—more on that below.
In light of the pandemic, the beloved event, which started in 1924, is being produced solely as a television event. Macy’s partnered with the City of New York to devise a “safe plan” in order to keep the cherished “tradition alive” during these unprecedented times.
“Macy’s believes in celebration and the joy of marking milestone moments with family and friends. The Macy’s Parade is our love letter and gift to the City of New York and the nation. Under the unique challenges of these unparalleled times, we felt it was important to continue this cherished holiday tradition that has been the opening act to the holiday season for generations of families,” Susan Tercero, executive producer of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, said in a press release. “While it will certainly look different in execution, this year’s Macy’s Parade celebration will once again serve its historical purpose – to bring joy into the hearts of millions across the nation.” …

… Jennie-O ‘s “Big Turkey Spectacular,” as well as Warner Bros. Pictures’ ” Tom & Jerry’s Tourist Trap” and Olay’s “Her Future is Stem-sational” will also be making their way down the parade route for the first time.
