How to Make an Emoji Sandwich

The Lunchbox Dad shares how he turns simple sandwiches into a fun family activity

Did you know that the plural of emoji is emoji? Did you know that currently there are over 3,300 official emoji? Did you know that World Emoji Day is July 17th each year? Did you know that it is pretty easy to make emoji sandwiches and cookie food art for a your kid’s lunch? Keep reading to find out how!

No matter what emoji is your kid’s favorite, you can use the instructions here to make it into a sandwich. I made them recently for a room full of teenagers on the Hormel® Natural Choice® brand Good Feeds Us All Tour and the kids couldn’t get enough!

Lunchbox Dad’s Emoji Sandwich

  • Serves

  • Whole wheat bread
  • Cheddar cheese
  • White cheese
  • Nori or black olives
  • Sliced turkey

Instructions

Use a circular cookie cutter on the bread, cheddar cheese, and turkey. Stack into a sandwich with the cheddar cheese on top. Cut nori (and white cheese or turkey if necessary) into the desired face shapes and place on top of sandwich.

Lunchbox Dad’s Emoji Cookies

  • Hands-On Time

  • Total Time

    10 minutes
  • Brown fondant
  • White fondant
  • Premade chocolate chip cookies
  • Candy googly eyes

Instructions

Roll brown fondant into a long “worm” shape. Swirl together into a cone shape. Make a small mouth out of white fondant and stick on googly eyes. A little water will help everything stick together. Set on top of each cookie. To fit in a lunchbox, you might have to trim the cookie a bit.

Tip: serve with sliced strawberries and yogurt to complete the meal!
