Trelani Michelle is a Louisiana-made and Savannah-based writer and anthropologist. Crowned Savannah’s Best Local Author in 2021, Trelani published a catalog of Black Savannah’s biographies called Krak Teet and co-authored the New York Times bestselling and James Beard nominated Gullah Geechee Home Cooking. She pulls over to read historical markers, researches who the land first belonged to, asks folk where their great-grandparents were from, and connects the dots of the African diaspora. #WeAllCousins is Trelani’s motto and she breaks down how so in her 2023 TedX Talk.
