The Hormel Institute

The Hormel Institute was established in 1942 by Jay C Hormel and is a research unit of the University of Minnesota and collaborative research partner with Mayo Clinic. The Hormel Institute conducts research and provides education in the bilolgical sciences with applications in medicine and agriculture. Its current focus is on cancer prevention and control. Hormel Foods has contributed to the Institute since its founding. In 2008, a new facility was completed to provide more resources and modernized equipment for scientists and researchers.

Several past and present Hormel Foods leaders are actively involved with The Hormel Institute through their positions on The Hormel Foods Foundation Board.
