Hormel Foods Announces Director Promotions

AUSTIN, Minn. – Hormel Foods Corporation (NYSE: HRL) today announced that Fred D. Halvin has been named director of mergers, acquisitions and strategy for the company, effective Jan. 1, 2008.

In this position, Halvin will report to Ron W. Fielding, executive vice president of grocery products and mergers and acquisitions. Reporting to Halvin will be Jeffrey A. Grev, corporate manager mergers and acquisitions, and Robert C. Wahlert, corporate manager of mergers and acquisitions.

“Fred’s understanding of Wall Street and expertise in finance will provide a strategic level of proficiency in the company’s merger and acquisition endeavors,” Fielding said.

Replacing Halvin as director of investor relations is Kevin C. Jones, current assistant secretary for the Board of Directors and senior attorney. Jones is a 29 year employee with the company.

“Kevin’s extensive legal background and knowledge of the company will ensure that the high standard of excellence established by Fred will continue,” said Jody H. Feragen, chief financial officer and senior vice president, Hormel Foods.

Halvin began his career with Hormel Foods in 1985 as an accountant, and served in various positions in cost accounting and treasury. In 1999, he advanced to assistant controller, and in 2000 to treasurer of the company. He was named director of EVA in late 2000, and promoted to director of investor relations in 2001. At the beginning of 2007, Halvin also received additional responsibilities in strategic planning and acquisitions.

Jones joined Hormel Foods in 1978 as an associate corporate attorney in the law department. He was named corporate attorney in 1980 and senior attorney in 1989. Jones was named assistant secretary in 1990. He graduated magna cum laude from St. Cloud State University in 1975 with a degree in finance and graduated cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1978.
