Hormel Foods Locations Receive AMI Environmental Awards
On April 7, 2009, 26 Hormel Foods and subsidiary locations received environmental awards from the American Meat Institute through AMI's Environmental MAPS program. The program recognizes industry excellence in environmental practices for companies dedicated to the development and implementation of Environmental Management Systems (EMS). The number of locations receiving awards is the highest yet, with six of our locations increasing their award level from 2008.
Tier 1 Master Awards recognize the development of an environmental policy, commitment from upper management, adoption of pollution prevention, emergency response and preventive maintenance plans for environmental systems and monitoring of energy and environmental systems. Winners:

Tier 2 Achiever Awards recognize the commitment to Tier 1 criteria, plus expansion of the environmental management system, adoption of at least five energy and environmental practices, identification of the impacts a facility has on the environment and implementation of an external communication plan.
